I am getting about 4 new SPS frags in tomorrow and a Deresa clam. I have a 29 gallon display with a 10 gallon sump. Can I do a 5 gallon WC today to lower my nitrates? They are at about 5 or maybe 10. In between that using the crap master kit I have.

I don't see a problem with that. I tend to do a 20% weekly WC. Though with my new sand I will be switching to 10% as I see 20 as unnecessary.(CC sand bed just held in a lot of detritus)

I've always heard not to do a WC right before introducing a new coral/fish. Is that not true?

Honestly, 10 really isn't that bad. A wc will be fine if you want to do one. When your blues and purples start to fade your nitrates are to high. Just an fyi as a little visual test/estimation.

I understand thqt rule of thumb as doing a wc just before or after adding new livestock.

I think your clam might like it actually. (nitrates)
