So I picked up a powder brown tang today by trading in one of my yellow tangs since they didn't get along (i took a chance and introduced them at the same time, but after 2 weeks, it did not work out).. and i added him today, haven't fed the tank anything yet, but i want to get the powder brown to get into a habit of eating flake food as well.. not going to feed frozen until it starts to eat veggie flakes.. knowing that veggie is the main source of food for tangs.. but other than seaweed, is there any other way to get your tang to eat flake??? i mean, is that a better way or a trick that you guys have to get your tang to eat flakes?

You could try adding a little garlic. Powder Browns can be picky.
On another note, why not just go to frozen? A bit better than flake/pellet anyways ;)

i want it to get into a habit of eating my veggie flakes.. feeding the tank seaweed everyday will introduce too much nutrients into the tank everyday which could lead to eventual algae problems..
and feeding it frozen food, mysis or brine will have the fish in a habit to eat meaty foods and not get them in a habit of eating veggie.. which led to a few deaths when i started the hobby a while back..
so now whenever i get tangs, i get them in a habit to eat seaweed and veggie flakes before anything :D

With any fish it is going to take some time to fully acclimate to a new environment, did you ask them to feed him in front of you and did you ask what he was eating? I never leave a fish store without seeing the fish eat in front of me.

Just so you know, dried seaweed contains FAR less nutrients than flake/pellet, which in general contain the highest nitrates and phosphates of any food ;)

You can also try raw broccoli, my tangs have always loved it.

yeah but the thing is that when you put flakes and pellets in, it gets consumed pretty rapidly but seaweed, i usually let it sit in the tank for a while :S
    maybe
hopefully the pb adapts and eats eventually, i know it will take a while :s

You can also try meaty items. Wont be the best but it might help get it in the swing of things. I have yet to see a tang that didnt love mysis ;)
