Gfo AND chaeto?

I'm currently working on adding a sump/ refugium to my system. With that said, do people usually run chaeto with gfo or do most people only run one or the other? Will it thrive and grow with gfo running? Would it be a waste of space since I already am running gfo?

I run both, as do many people. While the GFO works wonders on phosphates, it does nothing for nitrates. Chaeto will not only help with nitrates, but it also provides a great breading ground/habitat for pods.

 

+1 I also use both, right now I'm on the fence of running carbon as well with the BRS dual reactor.:-/

 

I run all three. My Chaeto does keep shriveling...but it was doing this before the addition of the GFO...so I don't think it is the cause.

 

I too run the BRS's dual reactor, chaeto and mangroves.

 

i run a fuge, carbon and gfo 24/7

and never had a problem with trates and phates..

I will be building a sump for my new 90 gallon and I have been asking the same basic question, refugium, reactor or both.
