I just purchased a MRC fluid reactor to run GFO, I do not know how much to put into the chamber, Its a FMC 422 it 20 inches tall.

I also have an additional FMC 422 I want to run carbon through, I also do not know how much carbon and what type to run.

    Any suggestions

    I have a 30 gal sump and a 50 gal tank.

The reactors are plumbed together powered by a reeflo blowhole 850.

Also what would you run first the GFO or the Carbon ? does it matter ?

    Thanks

if you have run neither of these chemical media before, starting slow and then building up is best bet , as even changing conditions for the better, can give corals issues, if it is done to quickly

    80 gallon system -
Carbon - I would start with 1/2 a coffee mug and run that for a couple of weeks, then change for same amount again, after 1 month at this, I would use a full coffee mug and change it every 4 - 6 weeks depending on water clarity

GFO - you want half a table spoon per 10 gallons so that is 4 table spoons for you ( do you know current PO4 level? )
if you have measurable PO4 then the GFO will exhaust quickly and as such may need changing with same amount every few days or so until level is undetectable on typical test kits
once you have gradually reduced P04 to zero on test kit , 1 table spoon per gallon thus 8 table spoons full for your system, and again changing every 4 weeks or when you "feel" conditions such as frequency that glass needs the magnet over it increases, demands a change.

GFO needs less flow through it than carbon , so running the water through the carbon and then the GFO would be my choice ( or running them independently via T joints from pump which enables you to direct what flow you want/ need through each)

    Thanks for the input..

I have only run GFO and Carbon in media bags in my sump

I purchased the High Capicity GFO and ROX carbon from BRS

I have no algae issues right now ... system is 4 months old and everything is crystal clear..

Want to over filter the system before I load up on corals

In that case cpc12 , provided there was decent water flow over the media bags in the sump, the system should be used to it's presence and thus I believe you could use the same quantities as previously, but in the reactor
no need to go over the 1 tablespoon per 10 gallon ratio on the GFO though , that seems to work for most people including myself

    it is Phosphate Jerseyreefer
