Well if you haven't guessed it maintenance and tank cleaning day. Was looking into adding a GFO and Carbon reactor to the Reef and was wondering how many of you run them and did you really see a difference. And not to be a smarty pants but some time we think what we just spent 200 on is working and it really does but not worth it. Thanks as always for your help.

Oh hell yea, GFO works. Most go through a giant headache in their systems with Phosphates that grow your ugly algae, and it drives them nuts trying everything they can, but just can't seem to get rid of it. Add a Phosban Reactor and GFO, and Boom, Phosphates 0 and algae gone.

BRS brands are GREAT.. I own the carbon reactor & it's built like a tank.. They do have a dual version, but I'd recommend running two separate reactors.. You can control the flow one each separatly.

Thanks -- John I plan on running them separate. watched the video and it is worth the extra. Was just making sure that running carbon and gfo is worth the investment.

The BRS reactor is way way too big for a 125 gallon system for GFO. A full dose of GFO is 125 grams or 12 level tablespoons of GFO media and in the beginning you need half that amount. One of their reactors holds 20 ounces or about 600 grams so the GFO would get lost in it. Their reactors are really just RO/DI canisters and once the refillable cartridge is inside it its hard to see the media unlike a clear reactor like the TLF Phosban reactor and others that are a clear chamber which fills from the bottom so it fluidizes the media.
I like and use their chemicals but some of their stuff is not thought out well.

Gotta agree on the BRS system being over sized. I prefer the Two Little Fishies Phosban reactor and it's basically the same price.

Can you put GFO in a mesh bag and place it in a canister filter? or is that just asking for trouble?

I have the BRS dual now on my 75gal and love it the MJ1200 is a pain though, I had the Two little fishes reactor but the media would just clump up after 2 weeks.
