I'm looking at purchasing a GFO/Carbon Reactor from Bulk Reef Supply. I'm not sure whether I'll purchase 2 separate reactors or the dual. Anyone have these, whether it be the individuals or the dual and have any feedback on their success? Thanks.

When is the best time to start a GFO? After a cycle? During a cycle?

I purchased the dual reactors and I started using them this week. Very easy to hook up, Convenient bracket will save you some space. I used the BRS Rox 0.8 carbon and Rowaphos for GFO. No problems so far.

I run the dual reactor with their normal GFO and Rox 0.8 carbon. I like it a lot. It's very convenient, as said before. You don't have to empty both chambers (the water too) to change the carbon, which is great when using the longer-period phosphate removers like GFO. They need to be changed anywhere from monthly to bimonthly, while carbon needs to be changed much more often.

I would go with the dual, since you'd be saving space, and wouldn't need 2 separate pumps.

...I'm running two singles...but, plumed them into the system as if it were the dual system...I run both the GFO and Carbon...it is very easy to use and adjust...

I have two single Phosban Reactors, plumbed in series. I run carbon in the first, and GFO in the second. I find them to be very easy to use, and to change media.

I change the carbon at least once a month, and I change the GFO when my phosphate levels start to rise. Depending on the brand, and your husbandry practices, a little bit of GFO can go a long way. Water testing is the best way to determine when it needs to be changed (I'm pretty sure that it even says so in the manual).

You lose a bit of water when you change media, but it's not really a huge issue depending on your total water volume. Plus, you can always just swap the carbon when you do a water change, or keep a bottle of salt water on hand to replace what you lose.

One advantage of running two single reactors could be if you are tight on space underneath your tank. You could put on reactor on each side of the sump and still run them in series, whereas you wouldn't have that option with a dual unit.

I have the dual system using the regular GFO and Rox 0.8 carbon. Been using for 2 weeks and love it.
