I am wanting to start using some GFO in my reef system and I was wondering.....I have an extra XP canister filter that I am not using......can I just run GFO through it or do I need to buy a specific GFO reactor?

I'm sorry I'm not that familiar with that filter. I would think you could IF you can keep the flow low enough from pulverizering the GFO. Also I would start out at 1/3 of GFO needed at first, then after a week add the 2nd third and after 3 weeks go full strength. Hope this helps.

GFO works fine in a canister filter, but as vankirk said, the flow rate needs to be low, so that it is not pulverized. As long as you can turn down the flow, to around 100gph or so, it should work. I also agree to always build up the usage slowly to avoid shocking anything.
