How often do you change your media out??

I am changing mine every 6 weeks, but have no real rationale for that.

    Just wondering.

It really depends on your system and how your filtration is set up. I use Chemi-Pure Elite in a canister filter with filter floss as a mechanical filter. I change the floss every 2 weeks and the media every month.

I changed GFO maybe every month or two, it lasts a while, if your stuck as to when to change it, use a phosphate test kit to see if your levels have risen.

I change out the GFO about every 7 weeks but i dont have much of a bio load i think i use high capacity GFO. both canister and GFO and from BRS. I guess a phos test meter would help tell you when is a good time to replace media.

I run Chemi Pure Elite – good for 6 months I changed between 2-3 months. Purigen and RowaPhost – and change then at the same time.

Your scheduling will depend on what you are using, I would recommend you read the directions on the product you are using.

I am using the BRS GFO... problem is that there aren't any recommendations on frequency, hence the question. My phosphates test zero, but I am battling an algae problem.

My theory is that the water parameters read zero because the algae is consuming the phosphates, etc. when they appear... false zero readings. Just a theory.

    BRS is Bulk Reef Supply
    GFO is Granular Ferric Oxide

I really hate to admit but I am older than you... and the only reason I can see when all the letters aren't there is that I am wearing my glasses. It really sucks when the cute girls are only slightly older than your kids.... :)

Hey there again, fellow Houstonian!!! You are doing the right things. I replace my media monthly, whether it needs it or not, but thats just me. As long as you are not overfeeding, and your lights are good at 8-10hrs. It will eventually go away. JUST BE PATIENT!!! I know how you NASA guys are!!
