    Hey Robman.... Thanks. I was doing it every 6 weeks on basically that logic. Didn't want to wait for phosphate rising. Patience is a lesson I continue to learn....

    When you can smell the water or see a yellow tinge then I change mine out can't say one is like the other all carbon brands do more of less the same thing some just do it longer and better . After you allow the water to get to that yellow point or smell point once or twice you will start to get a feel for when to change it , Just comes with lots of practice and experience
    .
    Take a old white bleach bottle cut it open and make a 5" square patch then take a yellow high lite felt tip pen and make a 1x1" yellow patch or circle in the center and then tape the plastic to the end of your tank then look through to the tank from the opposite end if you can see the yellow patch then the water is good to go and carbon is still working . Old school and low tech but still the best way to see or tell and check if refugiums alages or mangroves are leeching tannins and or chlorophyll into the water .

    And Carbon will have little if any effect on PO4's thats a whole nuther animal to deal with
