So, just started running GFO in a BRS reactor and, upon the advice of some members, I only started with half of the amount that they call for on the label (1 Tbsp per 8 gal instead of 1 per 4 gal). First off, this doesn't really seem like very much (have about 36-40 gal total volume so added about 4 1/2 Tbsp). Would I run this amount until it's time to change the GFO and then go to requested dosage or should I gradually add every change out?

I would do it gradually and keep an eye on Alk.You may not even need more.;)

Thanks Vinny! Wasn't aware Alk dropped with GFO. So if the buffer drops then will the ph take a big nose dive? Just started really testing for alk and cal but the gha was becoming a problem.

Phosphate removers can sometimes cause a decline in Alk.
You will want to test Mag. too this is probably the most important when dosing the tank.;)

Thats still way too much. For some reason known only to them, BRS recommends twice as much or more than ANY other vendor, many with a lot more experience than them.
TLF and most others say 10 grams or 1 spoon per 10 gallons full dosage and half that or less to start with.

I like BRS chemicals but I don't care for their instructions on many things they sell.
