I have a real ton of rock from end to end and top to bottom and no algae issues there is always some of the most nasty and black and thick crude behind them that you can believe it . Its in those low flow areas the rock and sand can build up the anaerobic bacteria to help with lowering NO3. At 3 three month you just started over . I put something in my tanks it stays in there until death or I use a fish trap I hate to mess with a rock even or really put my hands in my system other then to add some flake food for the fish every few days . I use lots of rocks there are some photos of our tank around here somewhere and like I said there has never been a algae issue you simply have a new system and it needs time to mature and go through the algae phases .

Quick story about what messing with rocks can do..

I allowed a guy to I though cut a few SPS frags he said from some corals I was holding for him for a few months . They where starting to grown onto the rocks I told him he said let them go I'll get some frags in 4 moths they got huge in size and went from golf ball to softball and each where all over several rocks

I though he was taking some cutting he moved my rocks around and got them off and My redox fell off from average of 390 24/7 to 280';s for near to 3 months . Last time anyone will put or remove anything from these tanks..

Thanks, good lesson. Algae appears to be deminishing. I have been trimming by hand some, but it seems to be going in the right direction. Patience. Patience.
