Ok so my frag tank has been up for a few months now and I put new bulbs in last week all of a sudden I have a huge GHA outbreak btw bulbs are ushio. So how do you guys keep algae out of your frag tanks?

The tank im referring to is a 30g breeder with 2 ushio 150w MH bulbs plus a 30 gal breeder for sump/fuge, around 2k gph flow, skimmer is my extra aquac remora rated 75 gal, also have a hob filter rated for 50 gal. No fish only a few blue leg crabs, nitrates around 5 using salifert kit and no detectable phosphates. Any idea what may be causing the outbreak? Currently running halides 8 hrs

If your old bulbs were putting off a weak spectrum, it might have already began to grow, and then when you added the new halides, it took off. just a thought

was it the same kind of bulbs that you replaced?

ok so it's been about a week since my GHA outbreak and it has only gotten worse is possible the dual 150 watt halides on a 30 gal breeder is just too much?

I noticed that after I added my MH that I started having a lot of GHA as well. Swapping out for two PAR38 LEDs.

Cut the lights for 3 days, clean as much algae as possible, lights on then water change. You need to try getting it all out otherwise it will keep growing.Other options, snails, algae blenny, etc. Good luck!
