Alright a little info. tank is about 2 weeks old still cycling. ammonia has dropped to almost 0. nitrites are still off the chart and nitrates where off the chart and then disappeared then where off the chart again and then disappeared today again. some brown algae started about 3 days ago and has been growing steadily since then. I'm fine with that not worried and was expected during my cycle. but this GHA has me a little more worried. is it just common GHA that a CuC will eat? or is it something else?

    Thanks in Advance

+1 bryopsis. If you can get that rock out of there do it asap. If it is in other parts of the tank there are a couple other things you can do. Kent magnesium (not sure why but kent only) to bring up your mag levels above 1350. That helped mine, but what I found to be the best is a lettuce nudibranch or two. They are the only things i know that will actually eat them

edit: just read rest of your post........still cycling. Definately best thing at this point is to physically remove the rock. Dont try to it off.....will release more spores into system.

well thanks for the heads up!!! I caught it early, grew some time in the last 12 hours. as of right now its only on that one piece of LR. pulled it out and now its chilling in my water change tub. probably gonna bake the rock in the oven for a while and then put it back in its place. that was my piece to seed the tank so I'm hoping that enough bacteria got everywhere to be fine without it. now im just gonna watch the tank and try to remove rocks if they get it on it.

If it did manage to spread it should start growing soon right? I'm assuming my water conditions are perfect for it right now. how long before i can call it safely removed, if ever?

I have been bryopsis free for about 6 months, and just now noticed some growing back in my tank. So I have a theory that you are never free and clear of this nasty thing.

I would definately allow it to completely dry out for a while before adding it back to the tank. I would add another piece of cured live rock to finish the cycle (or ask for a handful of sand from an established tank)
