Hair Algae is not something you really want in your tank especially if you are keeping corals. If you want to use algae to reduce nitrates you would be better off adding a refugium with caleurpa or other macro algaes.

Algae problems are usually caused by aquarium water with excess nutrients like phosphate, nitrates etc. In the long term you may have to examine how you care for your tank. There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc so I strain/rinse my fresh/frozen foods before feeding my tank. You may want to consider feeding your fish less often. Also using RO/DI water and a high quality salt with little if any NO3, phosphates etc like Tropic Marin will really help too. Adding a phosphate remover, increasing flow in your tank, adjusting your tank's photo period or replacing old bulbs may help too

Ive been doing reefing for about 2 yeras...My bulbs are new...I bought a rock that had some on it like 7 months ago and its just stayed a patch on that rock for about that time. I have an SPS reef so all of those params you named are 0ppm. All others are perfection..undectable phosphate...

Im just wondering if this little patch will help with nitrates by keeping them at 0-5ppm(They are already at that point)

If it's been there for 7 months, it's feeding on something (ie - phosphates/nitrates). If you truly had none in the system, it would have long died back by now.

Sure, it could help with nitrates, but the only way an algae really consumes nitrates is by growing...

Just take the rock, dip it for 10 min in a bucket with 10-1 ratio of water to hydrogen peroxide and that should knock it out

No, I've dipped Zoas and Palys several times to get algae of the rocks or frag plugs
