CUC, and try to siphon out that stuff off the surface. How long is he running his lights? And does the tank get a lot of sunlight? All the nitrates are and phosphates are causing all that algae to thrive. The lack of flow is causing a lot of this. dead spots cause build up. Tell him what he needs, and if he doesnt want to spend the cash, then tell him there is no other solution. He needs a reactor with GFO, and or Bio-pellets, but that will require a good skimmer.

yea i was shocked by how bad it was, he told me he had them but i didnt know he had a garden going.. i zapped a few rocks already, and it took care of a bunch of them, he just sent me a picture of his tank and it looks better, but lack of flow is my main concern at this point...

i was there last wednesday and sucked out alot of it, he just sent me a picture and its all cyano now, no hair algae, and lack of flow is an issue with the system, that i know the tank doesnt get sunlight its in his theater room on the second story so its a pretty dark room, i set his lights to run for 6 hrs on full bore and the actinics to run for 6 hrs as well, then he has LED's for night time, there are only a colony of zoas in there, i asked him how long he has had the lights and he said since he had the system, and he's never replaced bulbs.. so going on 2 yrs??? thats a pretty long time for t-5's im surprised they arent burnt out yet, but they are very yellow..
