ok so its been a week since i cut my lights, trying to get rid of a GHA problem. I only ran actinics for 4-6 hours a day. The GHA is all gone!!! I tested my Phosphates and Nitrates today. Phosphates were at 0 and the Nitrates were at 10. What do you think was causing the outbreak??? Is it in the rocks??? I am using base rock. I am scared to turn the daylights on again because i dont want it coming back. I dont have any corals yet so maybe ill just keep them off till i do??
    Special Thanks to
    Mike

Did you get your CUC after the outbreak started? I've found that an outbreak can get out of control fast without CUC. The presence of your CUC should nip any new outbreaks in the butt. You also may have had more phosphates or nitrates lingering from the end of your cycle that the GHA helped to dissipate. I would go ahead and run your lights. This will be a good time to basically start over. Watch closely and if it starts to come back cut the lights and post again. Sooner or later we will figure out what the key problem is here.

i got the CUC after the outbreak. Its a small CUC for now. Few snails, nano conchs and few hermits. I am getting the CUC that John recommended from reefcleaners sometime next week. I am pretty excited about it.
Should i keep my daylights to a minimum for a while??? I was thinking i would just run the actinics till the new CUC gets here just in case?

wow congrats. I just scrubbed my rocks to get rid of GHA, got most of it off can't wait until it's all gone. I run my lights about the same time as yours everyday and only 2 lights. I am very jealous of you :D

Keeping on the reduced plan until you receive your full CUC might not be a bad plan. I overfeed my corals so much its ridiculous, but every time I see an outbreak starting my nocturnal turbo snails pop out during the day and it's gone before it can get going.
