I found a pretty effective way of preventing skimmer bubbles from getting into my tank. I have an octopus nw 120 skimmer in a 20 long below my tank. Due to a recent syphon mishap (read water spill) I had to break down my 10 gallon fuge and use half of the 20 gallon sump as a fuge. To keep the bubbles from getting back into my tank I took a couple pieces of under gravel filter and fit them back to back in the sump. The slits are so small that bubbles dont get through easily but my poor fit ensures plenty of water flow =)

As you can see in this top down pic there are a lot of bubbles on the left where the inlet from the tank and ruge as well as the skimmer all sit. The right side of the filter is where my return pump is.

I just thought I would post this as an alternative to sponges. This should also provide some nice spots for feather dusters and sponges to grow maybe.

As you can see from this next picture I used the built in fittings for the uplift tubes to support the pieces of filter. I did have to cut the corners on both the top and bottom of each piece to get past the silicone.

Surprisingly it works quite well. The skimmer is 5 or 6 inches from the return pump and I get almost no bubbles in the DT.
