feeding a little bit of food every 3rd day will continue to harbor the beneficial bacteria.
bacteria can only survive in same proportion as ammonia. so whatever u feed will decompose to ammonia and amount of ammonia produced will harbor equal ratio of bacteria.

The methods i use to cycle new tank is very recommended in the freshwater world, but i haven't seen it that much in saltwater, and is add ammonia until you get you reading to 10 ppm, monitor weekly until you see it reduce, when it hit 0 add more to get it to 10ppm again an monitor nitrite, keep adding ammonia as it goes down, when you add ammonia to 10ppm and the ammonia and nitrite reading goes to 0 in 24h you're good to go to add some fish.

in this point your tank is ready to handle a big load, and some fish won't do no harm to the tank, but after the first batch wait a few months to help the system stabilize.
