got this one yesterday, I simply couldn't help myself, i swore i wouldn't get anything until i had the filter sorted out and built up the live rock.

it started eating on the first offer or shrimp held on a feeding stick. Must have been a little peckish when i got her.

We named it Snow White, because it was sliming inside the pipe with a snow flake eel, I've seen the snowflake advance on her but this may be territorial. they don't fight and the tank is only 30L i think that is 9gal.

One thing about eels is that water quality is easy to maintain, there is no uneaten food, and feeding doesn't happen that often. so white ribbon 16inches and snowflake at 12inches, that makes 28inches in 9gal. not a problem. eels can handle poor water quality, the snowflake in particular survived amonia and nitrites off the chart. so in the event of a spike your not bound to loose an eel.

Nice eel bud, looks a beaut. Good to hear that it is also eating well! Congrats

Correct me if im wrong but doesn't 28inches of fish for 9g seem too much of a load?

eels have a very slow metabolism, despite their length they are not overly active, they have a larger fat content, and only eat twice a week. if you happen to be feeding them too much they will simply get fatter, not more active. when you over feed fish they are more active and having less fat content in the muscle means that they begin to burn more energy from which you get more waste.

I do need to improve the filter but as far as keeping these two i'm quite safe with that load. with a better filter i can add one or two little fish, probably mandarins as they won't be eaten.. but those i don't dare add till i set up a pod farm.

Lastly the eels are tough, so i have a lot of room to play with.
