ok I give up! For the last week I have been hearing a very loud poping noise during the night. As well as an occassional squeek; Though mouse like it is not. Ive checked all my equipment and every thing is running well, you would also think if it was you would hear it during the day.I have a emerald crab, but I've had him almost a year. Other than that, I have a fire shrimp, yellow tang, two b/g chromis, two yellow tail damsels, misc. red legged crabs, snails, and coralls in my seventy five gal. none of these are new to tank. :confused:I've tried sneaking up with flash light, hasn't worked. I have to be up at 4 am to work, but but this is loud enough to wake me. well I am a light sleeper. any ideas?

Mantis was my guess also. They are so hard to see. we found one right in the front of our tank. Are you sure its coming from the tank? I am the same way, if I hear a wierd noise and I wont be able to sleep until I find it.

If your missing fish I would definately say a mantis. Yes they can be hitch hikers. Have you lost any snails?

I think if it was a mantis you would find some dead crabs and shrimps. I was told to watch for a pile of dead things and his hole will be close. If he was to take a damsel then he would be a pretty good size. Have you bought anything recently like rocks or something that a hitchhiker could ride in?

If it is a chupacabra I would suggest an immediate 50 percent water change LMAO!

he lurks in the stand, ready to snatch your goats...

Could it maybe be the lights? I have noticed that lately (because it has been hot), I open my whole house up at night, and it actually gets colder in here than usual. The hot lighting fixture will make some noise as it cools back down (kind of like a house settling). Could it be something like that maybe? Do you have your return plumbing secured? Maybe that vibrates and whacks something every now and again.

Could be a pistol shrimp too. It may take a while to find out what it is if it is a mantis or pistol shrimp. I still have something that hitchhiked in on my rock that pops and I haven't been able to find it after 9 months watching the tank.
