Hello all reefcreep here , i just had my 75 gallon reef tank finish its cycle about 5 days ago.The tank has been running for about a month. PH 8.2 , ammo 0 , nitrite 0 , nitrate 0, salinity 1.026, temp 78f. I have 40 lbs of sand 110lbs of LR and some cheato growing in my display. I run an eclipse bio-wheel 600 (minus the actual bio-wheels) canopy and a 4 bulb t-5 (2-10k and 2 435nm actinics) ,seaclone skimmer (that works) ,2 korolia 4 evo's, and a visi-therm 300w heater. Livestock consists of 3 turbo snails , 4 green (reef) chromis , 1 yellow headed sleeper goby, and 1 red brittle star. ok now with all that said i am having an issue of a quite large brown alge bloom covering all my rock and sand and some glass for about a week then all of the sudden (over night) my water got cloudy like smoke almost. now idea what it is or what to do but i figured doing a water change wouldnt hurt it so i did a 20 gallon WC and nothing happened. Any sugesstions? thanks for any info.

It could be a bacterial bloom, make sure your water is aerated as the bacteria can consume it quickly. Also, where do you get your water? Is it RO/DI? Do you dose anything?

Lots of livestock, have they been in all this time or just in the last 5 days?

LOL, misread that. Alll kind of crammed in there in one big paragraph... Yeah, that was a lot to add in 5 days. Also, the star and yellow headed sleeper goby need an established tank. Sorry to say, you may want to return them to your LFS they will be unlikely to survive in a new tank.

yea sorry about the crammed type im not the best at this writing thing. the star and the snails have been there for 2 weeks and the fish i added about 3 days ago all at once. just to help clear up any confusions. now to the airation of the water, how do i go about airaiting the water and also i only dose purple up once a day every day to help the coraline algea. and the water is treated tap water , bad i know so im going to use the store bought RO/DI to make my water from now on.

definately had a bacterial bloom. Bacterial bloom usually do not cause too much harm to fish and will go away in a couple days. Just make sure you have good water movement and oxygen exchange. Keep the powerheads pointing up to have good surface agitation The algea is a result of the end of the cycle.........usually will get a nice coverage at the completion of the cycle.

The thing that has me wondering is the zero nitrates right after a cycle. Did you do a big waterchange sometime during that cycle? Usually at the end of a cycle the nitrates will be very high adn the only way you can get it down is through water changes. However if cycle just ended 5 days ago, I would think you would have nitrates still.
