Given skimmer need info if possible

K, so a guy in my reef club is giving me an extra skimmer that came with a tank he got. It is an Aquarium Life Support 22V. He is just giving it to me, so hopefully it's not terrible, I feel like this "any skimmer" is better than "no skimmer" is better than "skilter"

So if anyone has or has had this skimmer, does it do well (probably more a function of the pump/ventiuri). can it be used outside of the sump (ie beside it) ?

Also, I need to get a pump as he got 2 skimmers and 1 pump, hence giving me free skimmer. I read it came originally with a Rio 800, is this the best pump for the job? Are there better pumps for this purpose (like an MJ1200 with a modded impeller).
