    I have learned a lot of valuable information off this forum and I thought why not join. At the moment I have a 55 gallon in wall tank with about 40 lbs. of live rock. also, there's 220 watts of vho lighting. I am currently running an emporer 400 for filtration with a prizm skimmer. First, I have read that I should remove the bio wheels on the filter and was wondering if this is true or not. Also not real happy with the skimmer and would like some advice on it also. Thanks for any help.

    I don't run any sort of bio wheel... can't see why you'd need it...

    Is this a reef or a FOWLR? Should consider adding a bunch of base rock (that will eventually become live) and let this rock supplement that filter...

    Like was said, you don't need the biowheels, they are to hold beneficial bacteria and thats what your live rock does so now you can use them for other things like holding the garbage bag down in the bottom of the garbage can. :)
