Hey guys I am building a DIY canopy for my mantis tank. It is mostly going to be open top but I want a piece of glass under my light so nothing splashes into it. What would be better to use?

I am thinking glass would be easier to clean, and won't melt.

The light is just a single t8 bulb.

Glass definitely. I tried 1/4" plexi and it warped in time.

Glass would be fine if you are not going to have corals. If you are polycarbonate is best as it blocks the least amount of useful light.

For all the reasons you outline, Stepho, I agree glass would be best. Salt can't corrode it, it can't warp, it's heat resistant, and heck, you can put it in the dishwasher if it'll fit.

    I lobby for glass. :)

Glass it is. This is over my mantis tank so I am not overly concerned with "useful" light. I do want to keep some softies and some easy macros but nothing I am going to invest a ton of money in, just frags from my other tank.
