Sometime in the next month I'll be starting a build thread for my custom fuge for my BC29. The question now is what would be the better material, glass or plexi? The total volume will be about 12 gallons. I know for the plexi I would need to get Weld-On #4 but what does everyone use for glass? Or would a combo be better: glass for the main tank body and then plexi for the dividers on the inside?

Thats a matter of opinion. Many have glass tanks and have acrylic baffles or glass baffles. just depends on your budget. I would do glass personally or 1/4 inch acrylic.

I like the acrylic baffles because you don't have to find a glass place that has double strength glass. You can get the acrylic at Lowe's and they cut it for you.

You can't use tempered glass for the baffles? My mom has a friend that works at Oldcastle Glass which is why I was wondering about going the glass route, he can get a deal on it. I was originally going to just get the plexi at Lowe's.

I used this DAP silicone that can be found at your local home depot for my glass baffles. I had a 55g tank and added glass baffles to it. Gets the job done and have had no issues.

IMHO Acrylic is much easier to work with.

Glass tank, acrylic baffles (had the local glass shop cut them for me). In my case, one of the baffles was lightly less than 1/16 of an inch too wide (not sure if I measured it wrong or they cut it too big). Just took a hand held sander with 50 grit sandpaper and spent a minute sanding the edge down as I didn't like the "bowed" look. Would have been a big problem if it were glass.
