Yeah, I wouldn't put a top on it. I personally think it would ruin the look, but that's just me.

the reason we spend the extra money for a rimless tank is for the sleek looks, putting a top on would take away from its beauty. JMO but I like mine topless

Rimless with no top is perfectly fine...for a coral only tank :/ I have heard of plenty of Clownfish, Angels, and other fish that "never" jump go carpet surfing. Not something I would recommend to anyone keeping fish.

i dont like the idea of getting a rimless tank with a top, i feel that defeats the purpose. however if you must have a top i think a glass top, if cleaned regularly would look much nicer than a screen top.

i think you may be forgetting that when fish that supposedly "never" jump jump out of a tank, that it is for a reason. often times fish jump out of a tank if there is aggression towards them or they will jump if the water quality is not up to snuff. i personally have never had ANY fish jump out of a tank. i even had a snowflake eel in a topless 55 gallon tank and i had enough rock that it never even thought about going out of the tank.

screen tops are the best imo. I have a screen top ontop of my rimless nano tank, and it works well and looks very good. I do not know if this will affect anything, but try to make sure you get white screen, since black screen takes more heat and light. Mine is white screen and i have no problems. The BRS DIY kits can be used, but you can make one yourself cheaper and its really easy.

True, they do jump for a reason. But when you hear stories of a single clownfish in a tank jumping when no one is around, can you just blame water quality? I just don't think it is worth the risk, nor good husbandry. This is another thing that even if it has worked for you for 20 years, I would not advertise or recommend it. JMO, YMMV.

i dont see how that can be called bad tank husbandry, fish dont just "jump" like you said they do, they do it only for a reason. so that would either mean the fish is getting bullied or the water quality was just that crappy. and THAT my friend, is bad tank husbandry.

    just my 2 cents.

My point was, who knows what the reason could be, or if the owner will be around when it happens. Just not something I would recommend is all I am getting at.

the best way to solve a problem is to not let the problem happen in the first place.

my reasoning, if you have a healthy tank and no territorial fish, your fish wont jump unless they are prone to it like eels or what not.
