Just the LFS recommendation (this store does nothing but saltwater tanks). I haven't bought the light fixture yet - is it not a good choice?

now that the topless discussion has been over the top, pun intended. those lights will work if the legs are on the long sides of the tank.

The sundial is a great lighting fixture. I use it myself, and love the integrated timers. Makes things much easier than using external timers. Also, the legs are adjustable so you will have no problem setting it up on that size of tank. And yes, there is a clear plastic cover that protects the bulbs from saltcreep, etc.

I had the same question when I bought my sundial: the current-usa instructions clearly state that it can only be used over a covered aquarium. I then looked over the instruction manuals for their other lighting fixtures and found the same disclaimer on every one. This is despite the guard already over the lights.

I took it to be something the lawyers forced them to put in as I haven't had any problems with mine (open top) although I could imagine that a big splash could cause some damage as the fixture is vented. Interestingly they also give you covers for the timers.
