What is everyones thought on haveing glass tops on mtd. I see most poeple have not tops on at all. I dont mind keeping them off ,but I just have small apartment and dust collects fast. Does the glass filter out radiation?

I agree. Glass tops are not worth the small gains they provide. If you don't have fish that are a jump risk, just lea the tops off.

Outta curiosity what are the advantages of a glass top over a mesh? Just the evap rate?

I'm curious about this as well. I have one, but that was because it was the easiest thing to do at the time.

I have a glass top and during the week between WC I have such minimal evap that I dont need to add more than 1 or 2 cups of water and my SG stays constant. Also with a glass top you can keep the guys all in the tank but this could be done with other methods as well

No, you need a foil helmet for that.
I run a glass top on my tank, but its not a reef, and I have jumpers. It really helps cut down on the evap rate, probably cuts it by 80-90%. I would imagine a lot of that has to do with where you live. Out here in the high desert with about a 10-15% average humidity evaporation is a pain. They are a ***** to keep clean though.

I have to take off the top once a week and scrub under boiling water to keep it clear, although isnt viniger safe to use for built up scum?

Any special kind of viniger or jsut any old bottle of white viniger will do? Also do you have to do anything to rinse it off or just hot water?
