    I don't know why you couldn't use vinegar on it. I would use it on mine, but I don't really have an issue keeping mine clean.

    I have never used viniger before and was afriad to mess something up since this is my first SW tank. Any special instruction to doing so would make my life a lot easier

    I use straight vinegar to clean my power heads and all my equipment. I just make sure I rinse it well before putting it back into my tank. Hydor makes a product as well to clean stuff with. I believe it's something like magi-clean.

    Vinegar is fine to use. Just regular old white. Running your pumps and powerheads in it every six months should be part of your regular maintenance. Just rinse with water, or it will lower PH.
