I am in the process of building a sump for my tank, and for part of it I have to glue PVC to acrylic. Anyone know of any good aquarium-safe glues or sealants I could buy at home depot or my LFS? thanks

100% silicone, sometimes called silicone #1 I think. Just make sure you don't get anything that says bathroom, kitchen, or tub and tile. They have anti mildew additives that will be bad for your tank.

Lock tight (spelling?) has safe silicone at Lowes or HD

I like super glue to bond the pieces then seal if needed with silicone, silicone doesn't stick well at all to acrylic.

    On my DIY sump,

I didn't use any glue or sealer, just tubs in tubs.

outer is a 50g rubbermaid 'roughneck', that squeezes perfictly under my stand. Luckily, I installed it after my take was up and running, the plastic 'confomrs' easliy when itt's warm.
Then a smaller 10g tub, iin the larger one that houses my overflow intake's reverse durso for noise recuction, filter bag, SC150 PS- this keeps the level for the skimmer constant, then flow thru a stereainer basket crammed full of chaeto, then to my mightly return pump, DT, etc.
I don't get any microbubbles in my DT with my set up either. Between the tub in the tub, and it flowing thru the chaeto basket- no bubles.
I"ve got a heater in there too! Yep, a heater in an all plastic sump.
The acheon 300W (I think it is), is easy to keep the glass element off the plastic.

They have all sorts of various plastic containers at stores like HD, Menards, Lowes, etc.
Just make sure the main or outer one is reinforced and fairly heavy, the inner tub compartments can be thin, no problem.

Just throwing some options out there, works great for me.

Not sure, what else you might use, but silicone doesnt really bond to acrylic or pvc. It will "stick" for a little while, but if you are needing it to be water tight you're going to need something else. I found this in a forum online.

Weld-On #40 2 part Plexiglass Acrylic glue is a clear two-part, reactive, high-strength cement for bonding all acrylics to each other and to polyester, butyrate, PVC, styrene, wood, etc. Weld On 40 Meets Mil Spec A-8576 Type III.

    or this stuff

    Weld-On #1802 Multi-plastic Glue Pint Can
Medium-setting, light-bodied cement for bonding acrylic, styrene, rigid PVC, ABS and butyrate to themselves and each other.
I'm not sure where to get this stuff or cost.

I have used Goop Plumbing adhesive on pvc with good luck. It's in the Plumbing section at walmart for around $6. It was on a high flow pipe where a joint was leaking. I like it because it cures harder than silicone too. Never tried it on pvc to acrylic though.
