I currently have a Yasha goby and pistol shrimp in my 55. Can I add a sand sifting goby or will they fight? My Yasha won't go more that a few inches from her cave.

They probably will not fight but sand sifting gobies IME do not usually do well in the aquarium. They will quickly strip the sand of anything edible and do not transition well to prepared foods. Also if you have corals in the tank sand sifters are notorious for dropping sand all over them.:(

I have a diamond goby that I find readily eats frozen mysis, pellets, nori or whatever I put in the tank and keeps my sand fresh and white. He is fat and happy and I have had him over a year now. Just be selective of the specimen you pick and do your research before buying.

i have had 4 sand sifters jump out of my tanks. i have about a 1/4 in screen top. last one got right through it. i love them because the sand in my 75 is spotless! but i hate them because they keep committing suicide.

I use a window screen frame with tightly pulled fish net(like the stockings). I have never had a fish jump. I have had wrasses and gobies that jump with never an issue. The fish that hits the top the most is the foxface, it hits it a lot aggressively going after food.

+1 to nassarius snails working wonders on the sand.

I have 2 nassarius snails in there now. I love the gobies because of their personality and the constant activity. My tank is FOWLR and the hood covers the entire tank except for a small space for the hob filter. Are there any other active gobies that would work? I really love the sand sifters and all their activity though so I may even check with my LFS to make sure they are eating prepared foods

Ask them to feed it in front of you. This eliminates any issue where they say it ate prepared and it won't in your tank. If they won't feed it, it may be time to find another LFS. I have never had my trusted not so local LFS refuse to feed a fish for me.

Thanks so much everyone, I will have my LFS feed in front of me to be sure. Can't wait to add a new critter to my tank. I think I'm gonna go with the diamond goby, they also had a pink pot, but I don't think it's a sifter.

I think you will be very happy with a diamond goby as long as it eats frozen.
