My diamond goby will eat from the water column too. If yours won't, i have heard people recommend sticking mysis or other pieces of food in the sand near its lair. it will sift it out. This is a little more challenging with nassarius snails who will sometimes beat the goby to the food.

.....oh and it probably is the cause of your cloudy water. My goby never stops sifting. My wrasses follow it around waiting for it to kick up food. However, my tank is a 135 so it only gets a little cloudy where the character is working.

Is it normal for them to swim around? And not stay at the bottom. He seems to swim the whole tank. Not the top but in the middle.

Mine made a sandstorm all day every day. Some might not as much but mine wouldn't stop sifting the sand. I had really clean sand but cloudy water.

    cloudy water

What size is your tank that it is making cloudy???
I had a watchman goby and a pistol shrimp in a 25 gallon
The shrimp absolutely NEVER stopped digging tunnels and ploughing sand..
The water was always a bit DUSTY in the water column....However, if
I put that same couple together in my 300 gallon 8ft reef they would do the same amount of mess but it would not be noticable due to the extra
    flow and extreme filtration etcetc......

I have 2 sleeper yellow heads in my 300 gallon...They never stop sifting the sand...everrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!! I have taken all corals off the bottom and I
have gotten used to a clean sandbed and the corals being in the rocks....
It also makes it so my conches can cruise faster and without as much obstruction....

but...definitely if your tank is under say 75 gallon they will cloud your
water to a certain degree unless you have mega flow with tunze etcetc and even then....you will still get debris in the water column....

if your tank is under 50 gallon ...ouch...the water will be a mess constant

    best of luck,

    Tim
