After the untimely death of our pinkbar goby (see Jwin thread), I'm debating whether I want to try again. The shrimp/goby relationship was amazing and the only time we ever got to watch the pistol shrimp during the day was when it was with the goby. Now that the goby is gone, I can see where the shrimp "excavates" at night, but no shrimp sightings. We had initially wanted a yellow watchman goby, which the LFS didn't have, and we bought the pinkbar goby who formed a relationship with the shrimp within a day or two. I guess I'm paranoid about trying again, worried that the next goby will vault out of the tank too. :(

I'd get a watchman. I think I have a pistol shrimp as I hear clicking and popping but never see it. I plan to get a watchman - just keep your tank covered and you shouldn't have a problem. I keep my display covered and the sump is completely open.

I have a yellow watchman goby he has never gone higher then 4'' in my tank. I have had him for 8 months. He is very shy and eats everything { love him} All my tank fish are peaceful and that may be why I haven't had any problems. If I were you I would try again.

Plus they're pretty inexpensive. $15 bucks. At the most expensive I haven't seen them higher than $22 here.

I have an orange spotted goby and it's a cool fish as well. I want to get a pistol shrimp but with a green spotted puffer and a flame hawk in the same tank, may not be a great idea :p

When I first acclimated it stayed on the top and actually did launch from the tank. Was a good thing I was in the next room because I heard something flopping on the hardwood floor, ran in and put him back in the tank. Figured it was a gonner but within a few minutes, was at the bottom and doing fine. It found a little home under a rock and the next feeding was eating fine too. Who knows maybe the fall knocked him straight?!?!
