I just bought a pink spotted goby from my LFS. He was lively and they had him there for about 4 months. He seemed to be healthy, so I bought him. I put him in my tank about 3 days ago. He was fine for two days, but now he is just floating at the top. Is this normal? He is still able to swim down a bit, but he still goes right back to the top. All of my inverts seem to be fine, but my three striped damselfish is hiding. I don't know what that means either.

I'm guessing your damsel bullied him and he's afraid to go back down! Maybe rearrange your rock work so the damsel has to find a new territory!

I just rearranged the rock and he looks in even worse condition than before. He's barely moving, but he's breathing. :(    :-[

Have you done any tests on your water? It sounds like something is off with one fish hiding and the other not looking so good.

Does he have anything on his skin ? Any red on the gills ?
Did you turn off the lights when you added him ? What is the substrate ?

I checked earlier and he appears normal, no red on the gills. I left the lights off for two days just to be safe, and I'm using sand as the substrate.

Check your ammonia. What size is this tank and what do you have for water surface agitation?

He seems to be back to normal ::). I don't know what got into him! But all of my levels seem to be fine.
