I recently added a Wheeler's Goby / Tiger Pistol Shrimp pair to my tank. After aclimating them, I added them to the tank, but they went different ways. I thought, no big deal. They'll simply search the new surroundings, then hook back up. Well, after nearly a week the goby stays on the other side of tank. The shrimp digs it's tunnels under the live rock with no problem and the goby seems to be eating fine. Is there a need to worry though as they aren't "paired" at this point?

    Thanks,
    Richard

Were they already paired togther when you bought them or did you buy them separately hoping they would pair up? I don't know if that really matters though. Our pistol shrimp was actually paired with a high fin goby. They never paired up in the tank and the high fin never really seemed "right" in the tank. It didn't make it. Our next goby, an aurora goby, paired up immediately with the shrimp but jumped out and didn't make it (this was in my pre-canopy days). We then got a yellow watchman and they also paired up immediately and have been digging ever since. Since the goby seems to be doing fine, maybe they just haven't found each other yet.

There's never any guarantee that they'll pair up unfortunately, but after only a week I wouldn't worry about it, it's still too soon.

Thanks for the replies. Soon after posting, I went to check the tank out again and the goby was peeking out of the shrimp's hole.... well their hole. They have since been inseperable. Really neat watching the two of them work together and seeing what happens in nature.

    Thanks again!!!!

Post a picture of them paired up if you can. We love pictures on this forum (in case you haven't already found out from the picture police). ;D Here's a picture I took this morning.

I really want the same pair.. but I also have smaller peppermint shrimp and fear the pistol will destroy.. anyone have experience with this? I have a fairly large tank with plenty of room and rock work. I know that will be the first question. 125g with probably 100lbs of rock or more
