So I had a buddy looking at my tank. We were just talking about the tank and other tank related issues. Then he said something about me having a God Complex. Not a week earlier, my fiancee brought up the same point. Hers idea was more that I think of myself as God of my 29 gal, and its my world is all I focus on. This got me to thinking about it more and more. I came to the conculsion that they were right, I do kinda of feel like a god [In my case I am an angery god that has alot of blood on his hands, not on purpose of corse]. I enjoy that I am in control of thousand, mabye hundreds of thousands of lives. Its kinda kool....8). Anyone have simlar things told to them? Any thoughts? Or do I need to just go to one of those special doctors?

You'd only need to go to "one of those doctors" if you take to heart those comments. If you had a God Complex, then the same could be said for all of us. The same could be said for dog owners, cat owners, and owners of any pets for that matter. The fact that we're in complete control of our captive pets; and can alter their life with a mere mood swing is more akin to great responsibility, than to any "complex."

Sure owning the tank is cool--but in a way, we're all in control of a whole mess of things. None of which even comes close to being "god."

Enjoy your tank, ignore such comments.

But I look at salt tanks as more then a dog or cat. We dont control there whole surroundings. With the tank its a whole ecosystem we are in control of. Its more then just feeding walking and cleaning up after. You dont worry about your dog or cat being able to breath. Better yet the air killing them because you had lotion on your hands

I don't know about any of you, but my dog is way more work than my reef, although I see your point.

really mines not. If you consider the exersise of walking then mabye. But its alot easier to bath/walk/or pick up poop of your dog, then it is to repair/modify then custom fit your skimmer into very little space in the fuge. I know I spend alot more on the tank then I do the dog [who wont stop eating] even with vet bills.

    :p

But do you really control your tanks inhabitants? Do you decide if one jumps? Or if one stops eating? Or if one starts to bully the other?
We have no more control over our tanks then anything else really. Sure we have input, but there are just as many factors that are not in our control. It would be like getting hung up on the thought that we take thousands of others lives in control everyday we travel to work or get behind the wheel of a vehicle as an example, or anything else along those lines. I know you scuba, does the ocean take full control over you while you are down there? Of course not, you and you alone determine your actions, and it is no different for any other being on this planet ;)
