God im so angry

OP: Maybe he knows you're right & just doesn't care, or doesn't feel like fighting over a 10 gallon fish tank is worth it. I have a 20 yr old son that has been right before, but I'm human & sometimes I just have to do it my own way. I'm sure you can understand that & have maybe even done it before... & Maybe your own blood family could possibly be more important than fish??? Just a thought...

 

Venting is fine, keep in mind that experience is the best teacher.

Is what they're doing responsible? No. But they'll see soon enough the results of that.

Did you do everything responsibly in your 4 years of learning about aquaria? I'm guessing not, I know I didn't. Did any of your fish die in the process of your learning? I'd say quite a few of mine did.

Millions of fish each year in the trade as people learn. Good? No. But to eliminate those deaths we'd need to eliminate a whole hobby which I don't think any of us here are willing to do.

Millions of fish die every year from fishing. I've eaten quite a few of those tasty things this year, as well as injured a few that probably didn't survive. My kids have done worse than me. We need to treat them responsibly and respectfully, but bottom line: they're fish.

Sit back, calm down a bit, and let them know calmly what will happen to those fish. And then watch it unfold as you told them, and then they'll start to take you more seriously. Or just not try it again.

Hopefully your anger is limited to the forums here, but I can tell you that raging at them will do far more harm than good. We've all been 16, and a good number of us have our own 16 year offspring. Please don't just blow off the advice here as your family has done yours.

 

well you clearly don't know how to spell know, he gives provides you with a home food and probably some of the income to afford your tank, remember we only got one family.

this being said what happened does indeed suck and im glad to see you take the death of innocent animals so at heart. give them a guilt trip

 

I am far from en english major but that really hurt my head and eyes to read. Not to sure what this has to do about 'general reef subjects' either. Remember here as well as with your father your approach to the discussion is everything. Present your self calm and collected, reading this gives me the feeling it didnt go down like that. Before you follow thru on your threat to call fish & game, remember if they were to come to your house & fine him it could easily run a couple hundred dollars if they choose to fine him. Think about how that will effect your relationship with your family as well as they next time you hit him up for some $$$.

Two fresh water tanks, a 10 nano and 75 reef tank later and my dad still thinks he knows more about fish then I do even though he has had a lot more failed attempts then I ever will (knock on wood). Just a father son thing, you're his kid and always will be.

IMHO: I think it's human nature to feel that one knows more than anyone else & it's 3 times as annoying when it's someone close to us! LOL
