Hopefully all my stuff makes it through, lost my mimic tang and it's the second fish in a week thats died, even though this was due to my stupid scopas, the fighting had gone away from what I'd seen then it got beaten to death or something I'm not sure what happened, anyway there is this god forsaken algae outbreak I havent been able to keep at bay so I'm turning the lights off for a few days and hoping for the best wish me luck

I do this all the time, works great for me. Ive mentioned it a couple times, but I wrap a towel around my tank to block out any ambient light, might sound like a little overkill, but it works for me. Its also easier, because my tank is a 20 long.

This method worked great for me. I turned off all lights, wrapped two large blankets around the tank and let it be for 3 days. Turned the actinics on for 6 hours the fourth day and 3 hours on the 10,000K did this for two days after that it was back to regular lighting schedule. The only thing that suffered was my toadstool leather, closed up and never opened back up. it has been 3 weeks since I did this and my tank looks great. No algae, no toadstool either:confused:. The shape of it is changing but the little sweepers have not come out. I test my water params everyday right now and I havent had any increases with anything so I leave it in.
