At christmas time I will be going out of town. I will be leaving on christmas eve morning and returning boxing day morning. I have noone that can babysit my tank. I have no sumps, hard plumbing but how do you feed the fish and control water top up's and temp? This is all I am concerned with. I can time the lights, I can top up that morning and feed but it's the next day I'm concerned with?

I'm do not know when boxing day is but your fish will be fine if you do not feed them for 2-3 days. If you only lose a gal a day it won't be the end of the world because as a percentage your tank should survive just fine. Those of us with sumps worry more than you would because we are worried about burning out our pumps. Your Temp should be controlled by your heater and cooling at that time should not be an issue.

Please let me know if this helps. I often leave my tank for 3 days in the winter with no issues at all.

Oh that is a relief. I have read horror stories but mostly with people who have hard plumbing.

Last time i was away for a weak my sump sprung a leak, that was a fun day back! With out the SUmp i add and extra gallon to the tank, rises it above normal to cover your evaporation. Just don't go over boeard that you change the specific gravity to much.

You should have nothing to worry about at all nemo. I leave my tank on weekends thru the summer months to go camping and never have had an issue. I have gone from feeding twice a day, untill the red on the sand started buggin me, then went to once a day, now I feed only about once every other day. As JT said, every third day wouldnt hurt a thng. Have a good holiday and your fishys will be fine.
