looking to go from my current 20L setup to a 30 gal setup. right now i have a couple fish...watchman, and true clown. a few pep shrimp, a torch coral, mushrooms, colt leather, button polyps, and xenia. im thinking about ordering all new sand and about 40lbs base rock. now from here what would be the best way to transfer everything over. looking to move the 30 lbs LR i have now and all the water i have to keep it from cycling over again. need some input.

i was thinking about setting up the 30 as a new tank and waiting for a cycle but i want to put the new tank in the same place as the old one. so there goes that idea. please all info is appreciated.

If you just add everything thats in yours to the new tank you should be fine if the new rock is base rock. I would put maybe 10 gallons of the water in the new tank but I'm not 100% on that one maybe someone else will chime in GL tho

You can move it directly over; LR, corals, fish, all that. Use fresh sand (don't reuse sand) and reuse your water (you'll have to make some more for the increased volume obviously).

As long as the additional rock is all base, you should be fine as stated.

    Take your time.

good luck! i love my 30 gallon. and you could turn that 20l into a mantis tank (dont know how much that is in gal.) or you could do a frag tnak with it or a refugium. obviously there are of options as usual with this hobby. good luck

Don't move the sand bed unless it's very shallow and has been cleaned somewhat regularly IMO. Get new sand and move everything into the new tank, you shouldn't need a whole new cycle. I would either add new rock slowly or cycle it in a separate tank before adding it to the new tank though. Even some "base" rock can have dead stuff on/in it which could potentially start another cycle.

I done basicly the same thing. There is a good chance you will have a small cycle but it should not be bad. I would use all the water except for about 1" from the SB. I would put in my new base Rock and then the new sand. I would just make sure to make sure you have enough fresh SW on hand to make up for the difference in tank volume. If it is dry base I would rinse before putting it in the tank.

Sounds good rider. As of now I'm just hoping to finish this tank stand soon and I'm hoping that the base rock I ordered are nice shapes and sizes lol
