seems to be progressing daily. I just made the call to cut it up and dip the remains to check for pests. i know sometimes they rtn jus for the sake of doing it... it has been suggested that PO4 leaching from rocks could cause this but has yet to be proven. I am having a bit of an algae problem at moment but its mainly my sand bed and seems to be cyano based just green perhaps blu/green cyano, but his is green...
tanks had a brand new sand bed so im expecting a lil bit of a cycle in it.

Its stn if it is slow and starting from the bottom. Im having the same problem on a large sps colony of mine.

Some ppl suggest it could be a bacteria because others have noted that once one starts inside the DT, others have surely followed. For some others its just 1 isolated coral.

Myself being a risk taker (on the border of stupidity because of the risk of spreading it around in case I was wrong) I fragged the mother colony that is STILL stn'ing and placed the frag in my smaller established grow-out tank. Its has since STOPPED STN'ing, has full polyp extension, and is coloring back up quite nicely. Recently last week I fragged another 4 pieces from the mother colony and they are now chilling in the grow-out together.

The tips of 2 of the 4 have full polyp extension, I expect coloring to follow in suit soon (I hope). The other 2 are still pretty bleached, they might just be too far gone to recoup or may just need more time.

I moved 2 other sps frags of other species into the grow-out permanently until I can figure out what is going on in the 90, I diddnt want to risk losing them.

Some suggest in mixed reefs that the mucous that sofies and some LPS shed for defending thier territory might have something to do with it. Again this is all just theory. I also have softies in the grow out, and i'm not running any carbon. The only thing I do have in the 90 that is not in grow out also is some Kenya tree and Hammer head coral.

Check mg levels, ph swings, temp swings (my grow out fluctuates 4 degrees daily, and everybody is doing great...so probably just MAJOR swings would/could be a factor), and salinity swings/high levels.

I dont have an ATO on my 90, and salinity fluctuates, process of elimination leads me to believe that this might be the issue. Once I get it under control i'll post about my findings. I'm sure that many things cause STN, though. Some of them still not even known or understood.

It might be aefw's or other "bugs". I wanted to move the mother colony over to grow-out, but I dont have any more dip and dont want to risk spreading whatever it MIGHT have to the grow out tank.

Good luck on finding out whats the issue. If I were you I would isolate the affected colony away from your other sps in case it does come directly from that colony and decides to spread.
