So I recently set up my tank and only have live rock in it. I am going to be leaving for about 3 weeks and I am concerned with evaporation and the sumps ability to continue to move water.

Would it be OK for me to shut the filter system down and just put power heads in the tank to move water while away? I only have live rock in the tank at the moment. The tank has cycled, but we haven't put any live stock in as we will be gone for this long of a time.

Also, can I leave the lighting system off or could that have an ill effect on the rock and anything growing on it?

    Thanks.

personally, i'd leave the lights off, shut off the sump and just put a PH in the sump and the display to keep both bits of water churning...

later you can look into an ATO or something... but at this point, I wouldn't bother with it...

Thanks. I didn't have time to acquire the hardware for the ATO which is what is causing me some grief, otherwise I would have been set.

    Appreciate the advice.

It may be too late for you now, but you should invest in a controller, either ReefKeeper or an Apex. I have the Apex and its awesome, total peace of mind when going on vacation, plus hook up a webcam and you have the best of both worlds...the ability to control your tank and view it!

ATO is a key component as well.
