for T5's I'm not sure, I think mine(a retro 4x29w) will be about 6" above my 29g. So maybe somewhere around there.

Oh, but keep in mind, space to reach into the tank if you ever need to. Mine will be fine, because I will have it mounted to a "shelf", which will sit in the groves routed out in each end of the(inside) of the canopy.

    Mine will look like this.

That shelf could be taken out.

But yours is an entire fixture, so I guess if you needed to you could take the fixture out(to access the tank) or install it to the top inside the the canopy.

Ya, I might have to make a big canopy, but if it comes down to it. I don't mind taking the lights out if I need access to the tank.

Just curious how you designed the stand? Is it something you made up, or something you found online? If I designed one myself I know it would come crashing down!!!

I looked up several peoples DIY stands, and used parts of each design, and then put some extra support in where I thought it was needed. I filled up the tank last night on the stand, and I think I will be anchoring the stand to the wall, as the stand is on carpet.

    :(, May I ask why you aren't?

Insufficient funds.:( I'm 16 yrs old with no job.

Instead, I'm working on making my 29g FOWLR into reef tank... just not quite as fancy as I was planning.

I'm sure it will look awesome!

My tank won't be started most likely until the end of Sept, Oct. I still need about 1000 dollars more of equipment, live rock, and sand.
