I have a 300 gallon tank and it is incredibly under stocked. When I was first setting up the tank I got a Tomato Clown and he has been living happily by himself as the only clownfish in the tank (I have a large damsel, a clown tang, a foxface, and a couple small damsels as well). I recently got a pair of maroon gold bar clown fish (She is quite a bigger than the tomato clown but he is kind of tiny) and I thought that since the tank is so big that everyone would get along fine. But both my gold bars are missing bits of fins and are hiding in the same corner of the tank all the time. Is the tomato clown that aggressive or is it another of my fish? What can I do? I have 4 percs in my other tank and they get along great.

The usual suspect is most likely the Tomato. The Tomato is now a dominate female and will not tolerate another dominate female at the very least. Knowing Tomato clowns your clown my not even tolerate any other clowns. Next I would suspect the large damsel and lastly the clown tang.

If possible try changing up some rock work to establish new territories. If the stress continues disease such as marine ich will set in.

The gold bars hang out pretty much in the same spot all the time now. They are still together and seem less stressed when they are together. Tomato clown sticks to the other side of the tank but will swim halfway across (something it never did before) and then swim back.

Will the gold bars' fins heal from the pieces missing?

Yeah the fins usually heal just fine.

You're tank is so large that hopefully everyone will find their own spot. Perhaps the new clowns ventured into the Tomato's territory one too many times.

In my experience when a clown is stressed from aggression they usually stop eating, then hiding in the corner, and then breathing at the surface....As long as they're eating you can probably wait it out unless you continue to see tattered fins.
