I am planning to pick up a golden midas blenny tomorrow. They have a couple of the blue ones at my LFS, but I really like the gold.

Anything out of the ordinary that I should be worried about with them?

no, i love them. They are one of the most active blenny there is. You will see them swim i the open quite a bit.

They do get stress colors, so dont panic when you see them.

Are you saying that they will most likely be more pale when scared or do they actually change to a different color?

My Yellowtail fang Blenny looks like a leopard when he gets scared :) freaked me out first time I saw it-they change color at night too-sort of like camouflage.

yep, gets really weird color. They do it when they sleep also. I turn on my lights and see this leapord, dark color fish and thought he was dead. All the sudden he was normal again!

That's awesome! It's just a shame that now you are going to miss out on having a little fun.

Most likely what would have happened had I not known about the color change is as follows:

    1. I buy the fish today and get it home
    2. I acclimate it, dip it, then add it to the tank
    3. Tomorrow morning I wake up, and see him looking dark with spots
    4. I immediately think "Oh god, he has some kind of rare fish pox that's incurable!"
    5. I post about how he is dying on 3reef and is there anything I can do?
    6. You reply that its actually natural and get a good laugh at my expense

Best part about the forums is being able to laugh at other people without them knowing it-LOL!! Have fun with your new fish :)

Wooh! I just got him home, acclimated him, let him in the tank and POOF! he's in the rock work.

All I can see is his little face peering out from the crevice and yes he looked like a leopard when I got him home- thank god I know it isn't fish pox
