I have owned a green goni for over a year and it's still puffing up like the man. ts sitting in medium to low flow and middle of my tank. I have never target fed the coral.

I can try, but it is a very slow eater. Basically you will see the polyp grab onto the food like a glove and sometimes it will retract a little and take the food with it. The response you want to get is not the polyps retracting like other corals, but rather you will see the polyps fold around the food sort of like an octopus I guess lol. I really need a tripod too as this will be difficult with only one hand ::)

When target feeding Goni's you have to be very careful to not "blow" the food directly onto the coral...in most cases this will cause a stress reaction which can easily be misinterpreted as a feeding reaction. Instead you want to release the food just "upstream" and let the food "drift" across the coral. A typical feeding response in most Goni's is a kind of weird laying down/over of the polyps rather than the retraction of the polyps which is most likely a stress reaction. It's hard to explain, but once you see a true feeding reaction it will make perfect sense, LOL!

I've had mine for about 8 months. I don't ever directly feed it, more feed the tank and let it catch what it does. It has been doing very well. No complaints but knowing its survival rate I bought it as a crap shot. Knock on wood but so far so good.
I keep mine on the sand bed in the middle of the tank under 250w 14k MH. I feed my tank reef snow or rotifers. Gl

    It's not what you think!!!

    Pictures of a goniopora eating

So I decided to take some pics for you guys of my goniopora eating. I spot fed Rod's food and the coral was grabbing at it like crazy. Like it has been said, you have to be sure not to shoot the coral hard with food otherwise it closes up. What I do is hole my sea squirt farther back and hit the polyps with food. Anyways, here are the pics. Enjoy!

See how the polyps wrap around the food like a little flower closing up?
