I recently ordered green pagoda coral off an online site and they most definately sent me Goniopora. I ordered green pagoda because i was starting a new reef tank and well wanted to start with a soft coral.

Now i have been reading goniopora is really hard to keep and i dont know what to do. Its has contracted its polyps and theres no sign of them coming out. tested my water everything is okay besides akalinity is a little low but im in the process of fixing it.. . ... is it just stressed out? how long do ihave to fix the problem until it dies?? help!?

Welcome to 3reef. Sounds like your in a tough situation. First let me ask you a couple questions. Have you kept saltwater/reefs before? How old is the tank? What is your lighting? If its a new tank and you were looking for softies, than I would most definitely remove the coral. See if you can send it back and if you can't take it to your LFS and they will most likely take it from you and perhaps even give you a credit.

Are you sure it's a goniopora, and not an aleviopora? I had a goni live for about 9 months before it started bleaching out and not opening up much. I now have another in there from a friend's tank, doing well so far. They generally don't do well in captivity.

Either way, call up the company and tell them they shipped you a dead flowerpot coral, and you asked for a live green pagoda... p.s. what is a green pagoda?

What else are you going to do, buy heat packs and ship it back? Yeah, wait it out and see what happens.

I most certinly would contact the seller and negociate a suitable compensation as to the wrong live stock being sent.
(you would'nt except a cat if you ordered a dog!) , would you?
oh and do you have a pic of it?

PCs very well may bot be enough light for goniopora long term. IMO you should find it a new home. Also, to add another strike against keeping it is that your tank is so young. Being so delicate, I would advise a more mature tank for flowerpot coral.

i have to agree w/ the young tank + goni usually not a good mix. it does much better in a well established tank. but if it is a situation where you have to keep it i will do what i can to help............no promises
