My 55 has been the picture of health. I've been taking it really slow, and have only 4 corals. Mushroom coverered rock, zoa covered rock, green star polyp, and yellow polyp.

Seemingly out of nowhere, all my corals are closed. It's never been the case before. I can't think of any changes. Ammonia Nitrites and Nitrates haven't changed. First two are zero, Nitrates are very close to zero. pH is right on. Salinity is constant, alkalinity and calcium remain at 11 and 490 ppm. Temp hasn't changed. Lighting is only a few months old, and I know that's not it.

The corals are clearly not dead, just not opened. The green star polyp is just a bright purple mat. The zoas are closed like little buttons, as is the yellow polyps (which have been my prize coral, along with the very healthy green star polyp). The mushrooms are shrunken and nearly colorless.

    I can't figure this out.

To rectify this, I've changed 40% of the water over 48 hours. No dice. To address the last variable that I can, I changed out the phosphate media and activated carbon in my phos-reactor.

I did this an hour ago, and won't really know if it has any effect for 24 hours.

    I don't expect it will.

Has anyone had similar circumstances? How did your solve the problem?

have you done any cleaning in your house that may have indirectly poluted the system?
(Spring cleaning can be a silent killer with all the cemicals introduced into the air.)
also do you have a ground probe this will close corals up nice and quick if they are reciving loose voltage in the tank.
hope you sort it all out :)good luck

I see nothing mentioned of *iodine* and *Magnesium* readings.
Soft corals such as leathers really need it it help them shed, and replenish themselves.
Also mushrooms i bealeave could live thrue a nuclear blast and still surrvive.
Hows your coraline growth ? have any pics ?

How about a temp. spike that you aren't seeing. Possibly during the day at work in the hottest part of the day. By the time you get home it has already dropped back down? Just an idea sparky. As for the corals you've listed, I think you are gonna be just fine. All are very hardy.

No cleaning that hasn't been done multiple times since the tank's inception.

WM makes a great point, esp. the stray voltage. To add to what WM said, Maybe one of your test kits is expired, where did you buy the bulbs from? Some places(like Ebay) sell used bulbs. Luna

I can't see a temperature spike at anytime, being indoors. We leave the AC running 24/7.

    Thanks for the well wishes.

Luna, after months of things going so well, I'm reluctant to suspect stray voltage.

My bulbs are 5 months old. They're geisemanns. They were brilliant when new, and still seem to be. They're T5's, so they are well within the limits of not needing to be changed.

    I'm at a loss??
