I would not count this out unless you have check it with a multi-meter. If you have submerged pumps then there is probably stray voltage in the tank.

Wow, that caused a big fuss? You should have seen my wife when I dropped almost $700 on my lights!!

So sparky did you say you do have a ground probe? This is probably stupid of me to even ask the electrician, I'm sure you've check the stray voltage thing out. My best guess would be checking the test kits. I have been borrowing one of Kogle's Salifert Mg test kits and had a reading of 1530 (I overdosed a hair, no biggy) but when I got my new Elos kit and tested it read 1750:eek:. I'm gonna test it again and have Otty test it, see if we can find out which kit is wrong. Just a thought. Sorry for all your troubles buddy, it must be bad karma since you haven't been around much lately:p

Also Kogle was having problems with his 55 a couple years ago, couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong and eventually figured out that someone thought the tank was a freakin wishin well and threw SEVERAL pennies in there. Still doesn't know the culprit, but something to think about.

Couple of additional possibilities addition to those mentioned above...

Surface scum or debris in water changing available light volume.

Possible toxin build up from corals themselves.

Single large water change not sufficient in some cases. A number of smaller back to back ones better at diluting ...

Not a good enough reason to rule it out :) Do you have access to a volt meter?
