Well pumps and power heads like a light bulb are subject to short out over time and the coils may have a path to ground from the epoxy leaking ? I'd would suspect thats the cause the way you describe the problem.. Test it to be sure. The Cathodes with in the bulbs may well because the resistance ? Even the rectifier in the starting circuits in a ballast could be causing the problem .

I tested for stray voltage using an old analog Simpson multimeter on the 100 micro-amps setting. --This could detect a rat pissing on a cotton ball at 500 yards.

    Nothing.

The good news is the green star polyp is nearly fully open, but lank, and stringy looking.

The mushrooms are just perceptibly larger; and the yellow polyp has maybe 5% of its polyps open, instead of 0%.

I'm going to change another 10 gallons tonite.

    I'll keep you all posted.

An update as promised. All is nearly back to normal. It was a 48 hour incident. Notwithstanding my lack experience; I'm of the strong opinion that water changes saved my arse.

I changed 15 gallons of my 63 gallon system the first night, and 10 gallons two nights later.

I guess by many standards I'm pretty lucky and got away cheap, yes?

Come to think of it, I have a question about this whole water change thing.

    Here's the new thread.
